Judge Miesha Darrough was raised in Fort Polk/Leesville, Louisiana. She was an active high school student and graduated as the Valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Business Administration with honors from Howard University. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from Howard University School of Law. After graduating law school, Judge Darrough moved to Miami, Florida.
Judge Darrough is currently a Miami-Dade County Court Civil Judge serving at the Dade County Courthouse. She presides over civil cases involving contract disputes, landlord and tenant issues, small claims and debt collection, auto negligence, and condominium and personal injury protection, among others. Prior to her appointment, Judge Darrough was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida (USAO). During her time at the USAO, she worked in the Appellate Division, where she conducted legal research, wrote legal briefs, and presented oral arguments on behalf of the United States in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Judge Darrough also worked in the Major Crimes Section, where she investigated and prosecuted numerous federal criminal cases involving the illegal possession and trafficking of firearms and drugs, child pornography, Hobbs Act robbery, bank robbery, fraud and aggravated identity theft. Additionally, she worked in the Economic and Environmental Crimes Section, where she specialized in the prosecution of complex economic crimes and worked with the Health Care Fraud Strike Force, where she specialized in the detection, investigation, and prosecution of health care fraud schemes targeting the Medicare and Medicaid programs and private insurance carriers. She also served as Special Counsel to the United States Attorney. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Judge Darrough worked for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. During her time at the State Attorney’s Office, she served as a Felony Division Chief, where she trained and supervised over twenty-five division attorneys and prosecuted hundreds of cases including numerous violent crimes and homicide cases. She was also part of the Public Corruption Unit where she investigated and prosecuted complex cases involving officials who used their positions to commit crimes such as racketeering, bribery, unlawful compensation, extortion, fraud, various conspiracies and official misconduct.
